Kim Plays Her First Festival Performance in Six Years

Today, Kim played her first festival show in six years, as part of the hugely popular UK 'Let's Rock' line up. During her five-song set in Leeds, Kim paid an emotional tribute to her sister Mel, as she performed new arrangements of their mega-hits Showing Out, Respectable, F.L.M.,and That's The Way It is. Kim also included two of her much-loved solo tracks - the ever-popular, Don't Worry, and fan favourite, Free Spirit. Next weekend, Kim is set to play her second date, this time in Exeter (June 29th), before moving on to Southampton (6th July) then Shrewsbury (13th July).

14 Year Old Kim Track Goes 'Viral'!
In exciting news, a song recorded by Kim, with the producer Levthand, has become an unexpected viral hit on TikTok and Spotify - despite being recorded 14 years ago! ‘Today The Worlds A Mess’ inexplicably began to generate a buzz on Tik Tok and Spotify around a year ago, but the last 5 months have seen a huge surge in its popularity, with Levthand’s Spotify upload of the song receiving a massive 214,000 listens (and counting)! Meanwhile, the song is being used by 2300 (and counting) Tik Tok users to accompany their video uploads, with many asking who the singer is behind the unexpected viral hit.

Kim Joins the Line Up For the 'Let's Rock' UK 2024 Festival Dates!
Six years on from her hugely successful 2018 festival performances, Kim has been confirmed as joining the lineup for 'Let's Rock 2024'. So far, Kim will perform in Leeds (June 22nd), Exeter (June 29th), Southampton (6th July) and Shrewsbury (13th July). More news to follow!

F.L.M. Album 2023 Vinyl Reissue
Our friends at Cherry Red Records continue their brilliant work with Mel & Kim's back catalogue by reissuing the girls' classic 1987 debut album F.L.M. Due 28/07/23, this edition stays true to the original sleeve artwork, but the recording has been remastered as a brand new, 24-bit, remaster, from the original analogue tapes. Meanwhile the pressing is being presented on beautiful, ochre-coloured vinyl - the first time the album has been repressed on vinyl for over thirty years! While stocks last, orders will also include a gorgeous 12" art print, taken from Brian Aris' iconic album sleeve photo session.

The Mike Stock Interview!
Mel & Kim's first and only album, F.L.M. turns 30 today! To celebrate this milestone we bring you our exclusive interview with the song writing legend Mike Stock. In the interview Mike reflects on creating the songs which captured the essence of the "streetwise, bubbly" sisters who he recalls with great warmth and affection. Our interview is accompanied by a selection of unreleased photographs by Pierre Terrason.

Pop journalist - Marc Andrew - shares his recollections of an unpublished 1989 interview he undertook with Mel & Kim, from Mel's hospital bed, for Smash Hits Australia. Sadly, Marc no longer has a copy of the interview, but the details that he recalls captures the girls' plans to continue their music down a 'house' route, influenced by the US Remix of 'I'm The One Who Really Loves You'., and how upbeat both girls sounded!

Brand New, Pete Schwier Interview
melandkim.com's '10th year online' celebrations continue with our brand new, extended interview with Pete Schwier - co-producer of the amazing Kim Appleby album. Pete reflects on supporting Kim's self-confessed "mission" to finish and present the songs that she and Mel had written together, and he shares his memories of a project which he recalls as “light hearted”, “fun”, and without any “heavy moments”, despite the harrowing circumstances that surrounded its journey from conception to fruition.

Kim Interviewed For Upcoming TV Special
Kim has recently contributed an interview to the UK's Channel 5, who have commissioned a 2-part special on the legendary music production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman. Due to air on January 21st, 2023, at 20.30, the Legends of Pop special will include interviews with Mike, Matt and Pete, and many of the artists they produced throughout their stellar career, as they look back over their stellar career. International make-up artist and brand owner Ariane Poole recalls the make-up looks she created for Mel & Kim, and the tricks she employed to ensure they were at their stunning best. Where Is Love The Fifth Official Mel & Kim Single.
It has been three decades since Mel & Kim’s last single, and Dancing Nation Records are proud to announce the release of the previously unreleased Where Is Love. The track is the sisters’ 5th official single release and it perfectly captures the spirit and energy which was so evident on the previous Mel & Kim releases, with a slew of remixes which strike the perfect balance between edgy and fun, just as the girls themselves did so brilliantly. Mark Fisher (of Matt Bianco) passes away.
We were incredibly saddened to hear that Mark Fisher (of 'Matt Bianco') passed away this morning. As well as being a celebrated musician, Mark was also very supportive of our work, having previously worked and recorded with Mel. Mark spoke with us recently, and shared "I'd heard something that Mel had recorded with a friend of mine, and I asked her if she'd record some songs with me. One of the songs we recorded together was titled 'Circles', which I eventually re-recorded with Sheila Ferguson, from The Three Degrees. I have fond memories of Mel. She was a lovely girl and a really talented singer." Our thoughts are with Mark's family and friends at this time.

Today, melandkim.com turns 10-years old - and what an amazing 10 years it’s been. When we started planning the website, there was very little information about Mel & Kim online – which is staggering given how loved they are and how successful they became. Our goal was to create a quality online archive, and a fitting tribute that the girls would both be proud of, and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us to achieve goal – not least Kim, whose approval and support has always meant so much to us. Stock, Aitken & Waterman TV Special Airs
Part-1 of Channel 5's 'Legends of Pop' documentary, which celebrates the mega-success of the music production team Stock, Aitken & Waterman, aired on Saturday night, and featured a fun and, at times, moving 15 minute segment dedicated to Mel & Kim. Kim contributed an interview, in which she reflected, "It was a great time. We left our mark. People still care, which is incredible, and Mel lives on in the music".

DMC 's Founding DJ Alan Coulthard Passes Away
We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn that our friend Alan Coulthard has passed away. Alan’s name will forever remain synonymous with the groundbreaking UK mix-scene, due to his innovative work with the DMC (including the Mel & Kim Megamix Ninety and its accompanying ‘Italio House’ mixes of Showing Out, and he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Alan’s loved ones.

Where Is Love is celebrated by Classic Pop Magazine
Classic Pop Magazine placed Where Is Love at #18 in their 'Top 20 Posthumous Singles' feature (alongside tracks by Whitney Houston, Queen, Prince, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse and John Lennon), and said that the release "brings the classic Mel & Kim sound into the 21st century whilst retaining the pure sassiness that captivated us all back in the late 80s."

The 80s Road Map - BBC Four
A three part series titled The 80s Pop Road Map, and presented by Kim and Midge Ure, is coming soon to BBC Four. Kim says: “I can’t wait to join forces with Midge to prove that 80s pop was revolutionary in musical history. We’ll be visiting every area of the country to chart the change in the British music scene and discovering musical influences across the nation. In the days before streaming services and the ability to hold your entire music library in your pocket, the series promises to be insightful, interesting and rather nostalgic.”

A Letter from Kim!

As exclusively revealed by melandkim.com, via our Facebook page, Kim Appleby has released a teaser from her forthcoming new album, to radio stations. The new track, titled What's Not To Love, premiered today on the online radio station We Rave You today! Kim has spent the past year writing with producer Dominic King and they are currently busy mixing around sixteen new songs for a 2017 release.
